There is no university-wide prohibition on AI use; rather, instructors determine whether and how AI aligns with the learning outcomes and assessment practices of their course. Unauthorized use of AI may constitute a departure from academic integrity.
The syllabus statement should reflect one of the following positions:
- Permitted: Specific uses of GenAI are allowed in the course. You should specify:
- Whether use is permitted throughout the course or only for certain learning experiences or assessments.
- What kinds of use are permitted (e.g., idea generation, editing, drafting).
- Any restrictions on use (e.g., not allowed for final assignments or exams).
- What disclosure (e.g., including the tool used and purpose) or citation is required, if any.
- Not Permitted: Use of GenAI tools is not allowed in any part of student work for the course. Submitting AI-generated content constitutes a departure from academic integrity as defined by university Academic Integrity procedures.
