This is the use of DealMentor.ai as a tool for students to experience negotiation from all sides in an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) course. There were 20 second and third-year law students, 10 first-year volunteer students, and 10 students from Pro Bono Students Canada taking part in this course.
In one exercise, students interacted with a negotiation AI (DealMentor.ai). They experimented with the system in different roles: as a negotiation counterpart, as a coach helping them prepare, and as an advisor suggesting strategies.
The exercise exposed students to emerging technologies in dispute resolution and encouraged them to critically evaluate the usefulness and limitations of AI tools in negotiation contexts.
Technology is increasingly shaping dispute resolution processes. The exercise allows students to experience how AI might influence negotiation strategy, preparation, and interaction.
This exercise was particularly engaging for students. It generated useful discussion about the strengths and limitations of AI in negotiation. In future iterations, I would likely structure the exercise more explicitly and ask students to compare AI advice with their own strategic reasoning.
