Research Interests
My research explores the role of the terrestrial carbon cycle in the Earth system and how interactions among physical, chemical, and biological processes shape climate dynamics. My previous work has focused on understanding and improving the representation of the land surface and terrestrial carbon cycle in Earth system models, using numerical modelling, global Earth observations, and machine learning. Building on this foundation, my research is now expanding toward a broader exploration of Earth system dynamics, with a focus on how interactions and feedbacks among the carbon cycle, climate, and other components of the Earth system generate nonlinear behaviour, emergent phenomena, and potentially abrupt transitions. This work combines Earth system modelling with reduced-complexity dynamical models, dynamical systems theory, and computational and machine learning methods to better understand the mechanisms underlying climate variability, stability, and tipping points.
