As a researcher in film studies, I am heavily invested in the queer, the taboo, and the culturally maligned. Intellectually, I am drawn to so-called ‘trash’ cinema, bottom-of-barrel, straight-to-video genre works derided as sleaze or exploitation (and certainly never labelled, “Art”). I enjoy rescuing a good ‘bad object’ from academic obscurity, especially when tied to histories of queer, trans, and women’s artmaking and/or representation. Complimentary to these pursuits, I am also invested in the concept of death positivity and how cinema as a form may help us grapple with our own impermanence.
