My research considers the impacts of neoliberal funding models on social movements and their capacity to enact systemic change. I am interested in the ways that increasing demand for activist and advocacy organizations to formalize their operations to meet requirements for non-profit incorporation or charitable status required by funders, and the imperative to position their work within predetermined measurable outcomes influenced by the interests of donors, can ultimately undermine the organizations’ purpose and reproduce the status quo.
