John Breault is a first-year M.A. student in the Department of History, studying under the supervision of Dr. Richard Greenfield. After graduating with a B.A.H. in History and Classics/ Archaeology from Queen's in 2026, he is now pursuing graduate studies in hopes of improving his proficiency within the realms of historical analysis and historiography.

His research focuses on the tensions and begrudging relations that existed between the Byzantine Empire and Western Franks due to their shared claims over who was the true inheritor of Rome's imperial legacy. Specifically, his interests center on how pragmatic diplomacy largely defined their ability to tolerate one another in the face of theological discord and territorial disputes.
