��ϳԹ��Դ is unique among Canadian universities in maintaining the historic role of the Rector, a position rooted in the Scottish academic tradition and passed down from the University of Edinburgh. The Rector is the third officer of the University, after the Chancellor and Principal, and is the only officer elected entirely by the student body.

As a student leader, the Rector serves a three-year term (by convention, typically two), representing all students as a voting member on the Board of Trustees and as an official observer at Senate. The Rector advocates for student needs, facilitates dialogue with senior administration, and participates in university committees, ceremonies, and student government. The Rector also co-presides over Convocation alongside the Chancellor and Principal, delivers remarks to graduating classes, and oversees the prestigious Tricolour Award process.

While the Office is not a formal advocacy body, it acts as a confidential and supportive space for students navigating university systems, directing them to appropriate resources and raising systemic concerns with university leadership.

Since taking office as the 39th Rector of ��ϳԹ��Դ in May 2024, Niki Boytchuk-Hale has brought a people-centered, action-oriented approach to student leadership. As a student herself pursuing a Master of Education, she is using the role to strengthen connections between students and senior administration through open dialogue, inclusive advocacy, and collaborative problem-solving.

Niki’s priorities as Rector include improving the student feedback loop, enhancing holistic safety across campus, and amplifying student voices in governance and decision-making. With a background in marketing, policy, and student services, she brings a deep understanding of ��ϳԹ��Դ systems and a passion for working alongside students to shape a more equitable and responsive university.
