An unprecedented peacetime increase in defence spending in Canada, and planned expansion across the NATO alliance, has made defence industrial development an increasing priority. A strengthened defence industrial base ensures stability over the supply of critical defence assets while also opening up new high-value economic opportunities. However, this importance does not mean that defence industrial development is easy. A challenging policy environment and international security considerations place constraints on governments' ability to act quickly. This roundtable will explore current efforts in Canada and Ontario to build our defence industrial base.
