Gaels close winter season with titles, national appearances, and playoff runs

With the winter varsity season now complete, ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ teams have wrapped up Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs and U SPORTS national championships across multiple sports. Those final weeks of competition determined playoff outcomes, conference standings, and national results, as teams and athletes competed through the last stage of the season.

Volleyball and hockey close out playoff runs
ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ men’s volleyball captured the OUA championship, defeating Windsor in straight sets to secure the Forsyth Cup and a second straight OUA title. The team moved through the playoffs without dropping a set and advanced to the U SPORTS national championship, where its season concluded in the quarterfinals against University of British Columbia.

The women’s volleyball team also reached the later stages of OUA competition, advancing to the semifinals. The group extended its match against Brock to four sets before being eliminated, ending its season one round short of the conference final.
ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ men’s hockey celebrates during postseason play, finishing the season as OUA bronze medalists.
ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ men’s hockey earned the OUA bronze medal and advanced to the U SPORTS national championship following an overtime win over Toronto Metropolitan University. In the national quarterfinal against the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds, the team cut the lead to one goal in the third period before UNB added two late goals to secure a 5–2 result, ending ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ season at the national stage.

On the women’s side, ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ hockey finished first in the OUA East Division and entered the playoffs in a strong position. The team pushed its quarterfinal series against Ontario Tech to a deciding third game, where a 2–1 result brought the season to a close.

At the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Winnipeg, ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ distance athletes competed across multiple events.
Jude Wheeler-Dee won national gold in both the 3,000 metre and 1,500 metre events, completing a double victory at the championship. Elizabeth Vroom placed eighth in both the 1,000 metre and 1,500 metre events, while Tanner Hueglin finished 13th in the 3,000 metre in his first national appearance.
Wheeler-Dee also represented Canada at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Cross Country Championships, where he placed fifth in the men’s short race.
