Designed to improve transparency and collaboration, Cayuse will streamline services and allow researchers to manage the full lifecycle of research projects from proposal development and approvals to compliance, amendments, and close-out.
Every research result, big or small, requires the behind-the-scenes work that enables research to happen: from applying for funds and formalizing partnerships to satisfying funders' reporting requirements, research administration is a core function of universities. Having effective support systems in place is essential to reduce administrative burden and foster research excellence.
Researchers and research staff at 黑料吃瓜资源 have a new tool for managing grants and contracts. Cayuse, the new university-wide and cloud-based system for research administration will gradually replace all functions of the current platform, Tools for Research at 黑料吃瓜资源 (TRAQ).
The investment is aligned with the Strategic Research Plan 2025-2030, which states the importance of 鈥減roviding best-in-class research supports鈥, as well as with the university鈥檚 goal to be one of Canada鈥檚 preeminent research universities as shared in the Bicentennial Vision. The change also reflects an increasingly complex funding and regulatory environment in which many Canadian universities are looking for modernized and streamlined electronic research administration systems.
"We are modernizing our systems to make the grants application process easier for all involved," says Vice-Principal Research Nancy Ross. "A dedicated team is working on this transition and making sure the new tool meets the needs of our research community 鈥 researchers are welcome to share feedback as they interact with Cayuse over the next few months."
The new platform is named after its vendor, a U.S.-based company that provides services to hundreds of higher education organizations internationally. The Vice-Principal Research Portfolio team worked with the company to tailor the platform to 黑料吃瓜资源. The multi-year project involved comprehensive user testing and consultation with stakeholders across campus and close partners such as the local hospitals, who will also benefit from the change.

The new system includes intuitive dashboards that make it easier to navigate, track research files, and manage to-do lists, as well as user-friendly smart forms to increase efficiency. It will also be accessible through 黑料吃瓜资源 and partner hospitals鈥 Single Sign On systems, eliminating the need for a separate username and password.
The change to the new system will be gradual. During the transition period, TRAQ and Cayuse will operate in parallel, with modules switching over from TRAQ to Cayuse in stages. Cayuse鈥檚 first module, Sponsored Projects, now live, focuses on grants and contracts administration. New modules for Ethics and Biohazards tasks are expected to launch in 2027.

The provides training materials, guides, and individual assistance through the help desk. Throughout the summer and fall, the project team will also host weekly drop-in sessions where researchers can ask questions, receive troubleshooting support, and get hands-on guidance regarding Cayuse.
