The Queen's community is remembering Brigadier-General (Ret.) William Shane "Bill" Richard, who passed away on July 7 at the age of 77.

Following a 37-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces, including serving as commander of CFB Kingston, Richard joined the School of Policy Studies, where he helped lead an Executive Master's of Public Administration program, preparing public sector leaders. He also helped strengthen partnerships between Queen's, the Canadian Armed Forces, and organizations across the Kingston community.

Richard was among the leaders who helped establish the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research, bringing together Queen's, Kingston General Hospital, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Royal Military College of Canada to advance research supporting military members, veterans, and their families.
