How do we keep students actively engaged in learning when AI can read, summarize, synthesize, and write for them? 

The QIESR (ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Institute for Educational Scholarship and Research) "Active Learning in the Age of AI" Nexus brings together faculty and others at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ to explore how the widespread use of artificial intelligence (including but not limited to GenAI) is reshaping student engagement with course materials, including reading, synthesis, critical analysis, and written work. 

Through collaborative discussion and shared inquiry, participants will share emerging challenges, exchange experiences from their own teaching, and active learning strategies that foster critical inquiry and analytical thinking in an evolving educational landscape. 

Whether you teach as a faculty member, librarian, educational professional, or in another instructional role, this Nexus provides an opportunity to share what GenAI means for your teaching, learn with colleagues, and contribute to practical strategies for supporting active learning.

Together we will: 

• Explore how AI is changing student engagement and learning 
• Share experiences, challenges, and emerging practices
• Examine approaches to active learning in AI-rich environments 
• Share and maybe even develop strategies that foster critical inquiry and analytical thinking 
• Consider implications of AI use for course activities, assignments, and learning design 

The Active Learning in the Age of AI Nexus will meet on the last Wednesday of each month from 2:30 - 3:30 pm.
