What is Prehabilitation (Prehab)?
Prehabilitation can be broadly defined as interventions that are used to enhance physical fitness prior to surgery through three key domains: exercise, nutrition, and psychosocial support. Past and present prehabilitation trials across Canada and the greater world have implemented protocols with varying exercise types, nutritional components, and psychosocial resources/support as they seek to determine the best approach.
Current Prehab Resources:
Prehabilitation studies are underway within the Queen's Muscle Physiology Lab. Currently, our multidisciplinary team is implementing ADAPT-OC: Assessing Delivery Approaches for Prehabilitation Trials in Ovarian Cancer.
Resources for ADAPT-OC have been developed directly within the Queen's Muscle Physiology Lab. Coaches within our ADAPT-OC use the Coaching Handbook to guide interactions with patients during behavioural coaching sessions. Patients in ADAPT-OC are provided with the Prehabilitation Guidebook and Post-Operative Handout to support exercise adherence in their own time.
