Please note that Care referrals can only be made by faculty and staff for Queen's students. Other members of the Queen's community can get in contact by emailing caresupportservices@queensu.ca. Any concerns about staff members can be directed to Human Resources.

Can I Make a Referral Anonymously

The individual making the referral will be required to enter their name. In order to respond in the most effective manner possible the Support Services Coordinator may need to consult with the referral submitter. If you have concerns about the student knowing you submitted the referral, please let us know.

How to Make a Good Referral

1. Tell the student that seeking help is a sign of strength rather than weakness.

2. Offer to contact the resource on their behalf while they are in your office.

3. Offer to sit with the student while they make the initial contact themselves.

4. Accompany the student, if appropriate and you feel comfortable.

5. Offer to follow-up with the student, but do not insist on knowing what the student has done.

How to Speak to a Student ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ a Care Referral

• Let the student know that you are connecting them to Care.

• Assure them that making a referral allows for academic, personal concerns to be responded to in a coordinated way.

• Ensure that the students know they are not in trouble.
