Information for Students

Care Support Services is just one aspect of an overall strategy to support students who need additional support. If you are concerned about another student there are many resources available on campus and online. A list of available resources is located on the Student Affairs Resource Page. If you believe that the individual is at risk of imminent harm to themselves or others, contact 911 or the Emergency Response Centre at 613-533-6111

Care Support Services provides non-clinical support and is not intended to be the sole strategy for providing support services. Care looks for ways to add additional support from the most appropriate resource available.

Who Does Care Support?

Care is meant to provide support to any students who may need assistance because of a temporary setback or an ongoing challenge.

Will This Go On My Academic Transcript

Referrals that are sent to Care are in no way associated with your academic transcript.

Am I In Trouble?

Not at all! Our goal at Care is to help provide relevant resources as soon as possible so that students are better able to reach their goals at Queen's.

How Can I Help as a Peer?

1. Reach Out

Reach out when obvious signs of distress are present.

2. Respond By Stating That You Care

Not sure what to say? Try being honest: “I might not say the right thing, but I want you to know that I care. I wish I had the right words, but I don’t, I hope you can bear with me because I really do want to listen.â€

3. Refer the Student to Resources Available

Offer to call a resource when they are with you or to walk them to Student Wellness. Ask if there is someone you could contact and offer to sit with them while they are waiting.

4. Take Care of Yourself

Take care of yourself and ask for help if needed.
