This year, the last day of September will mark Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a newly designated day of remembrance to honour victims and survivors of Canada’s Indigenous residential school system.

In support of this important moment of reflection and learning, units across ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ are preparing several activities and opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to learn, engage, and act toward advancing reconciliation both on and off campus.

ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ recently introduced a new leadership development program for faculty and senior administration members.

Building Leadership Capacity @ ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´, facilitated by Human Resources Learning and Development and designed to support the new academic leadership development framework, is an innovative training program aimed at defining and expanding leadership capacity at the university while also providing a diverse skillset for current and future leaders.

On June 16 and 17, Principal Patrick Deane will join other global university leaders in a virtual forum to celebrate the launch and signing of the new Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) 2020. The signing event will happen during a two-day online conference examining ways in which the values and responsibilities laid out in the MCU 2020 address challenges and pressures facing universities today.  

Every Spring, the Deshpande Foundation hosts the Deshpande Symposium on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Higher Education, which brings together academics, policy planners, practitioners, business incubators, and foundations to discuss best practices in integrating entrepreneurship throughout their college and university communities.

Today, we learned of the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves near the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. While we await further information, it is expected that the discovery may be over three times higher than the 215 bodies of children recently found in Kamloops.

Following the unveiling of the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Strategic Framework, six working groups have now begun their work to advance the strategy towards its next stage. Established by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane, the working groups are set to meet throughout June and July 2021 to formulate operational priorities best capable of progressing the six strategic goals articulated in the framework.

ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Board of Trustees has approved a Harassment and Discrimination Prevention and Response Policy (H&D Policy), as well as amendments to align the Student Code of Conduct with the new H&D Policy.

Today, ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ announced that it will require all students, staff, and faculty returning to campus to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students, staff and faculty will need to be fully vaccinated or have a plan to do so, by Sept. 7. This requirement will also apply to all visitors to the Queen's campus.

As the fall semester approaches rapidly, ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ is focusing on making sure the right health and safety plan is in place for a safe return to campus for all students, faculty, and staff.
