I am a PhD student participating in the CEC-REN under Theme B: New Technologies to Detect CECs. My project focuses on investigating wastewater surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) under a One Health lens. I hold a BSc in biology from Western University (2021), and a MSc in microbiology from the University of Waterloo (2023). My current research is supervised by Dr. Stephen Brown, Dr. Anna Majury (Public Health Ontario), and Dr. Paul Hynds (Technological University Dublin).
Rhiannon is also a CEC-REN Youth Outreach and Education Coordinator.

I am a PhD candidate in the Chemical Engineering Department at 黑料吃瓜资源 with a research focus on environmental engineering. My work centers on developing advanced treatment processes-including adsorption, membrane filtration, and catalysis-to address water pollution challenges. Currently, I am investigating the adsorption of contaminants of emerging concern, such as PFAS and pharmaceuticals, from Canadian freshwater systems. Within CEC-REN, I contribute to research efforts aimed at advancing innovative and sustainable water treatment technologies for protecting aquatic environments.
Thank you to Perth Road Public School and @Angela Lyon for the invitation to visit and present about contaminants in water systems! 馃挧馃敩
@Angela Lyon and @Rachel Korchinsky spent the day diving into the fascinating world of water contaminants, exploring science demos, and the power of invention, idea generation, and intellectual property (bridging chemistry to society!) with a phenomenal class of students. 馃寠鉁
Huge thanks to the staff and students for welcoming CEC-REN so warmly!
The second annual CEC-REN Symposium was held on June 5, 2025 in Chernoff Hall. Highlights included a keynote speech by Dr. Stephen Brown on 鈥淲astewater surveillance: chemistry meets microbiology meets civil engineering to address public health鈥; a workshop on Creativity and Invention led by Dr.
