Herbert J. Hamilton Volunteer Service Award

Presented annually to an alumnus/alumna in recognition of volunteer service to the life and work of the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Alumni Association (QUAA), either through short-term impactful involvement or long-term commitment.

Award Eligibility & Criteria

Candidates should be:

  • A ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ alumnus/alumna
  • A current or past volunteer within the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Alumni Association. This could include any number of roles contributing to the QUAA mission to reach out and foster a lifelong association with ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´, including but not limited to: the QUAA board, Branches, Reunions, and Chapters
  • Someone who has made a significant, peer-recognized contribution as an alumni volunteer to further engage our members in the life and work of the university

Colin McLeod

Colin graduated with a major in political studies and a minor in biology from ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´, where he also served as manager of the AMS Walkhome service and president of ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Student Alumni Association.  

After graduation, Colin remained involved with the life and work of the university through several roles with ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Alumni Association’s (QUAA) board of directors. Most recently, he was president of QUAA from 2022 to 2024, where he and his team helped restructure the board to reflect the evolution of alumni engagement in a post-pandemic world. Colin was particularly passionate about ensuring the board was more reflective of the diversity of ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and was actively engaged in supporting university efforts to advance Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation.  

Colin is currently the consul and program manager responsible for political and economic relations, public affairs, and consular affairs at the Consulate General of Canada in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He represents Canada in five states – Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota – helping to advocate for Canadian interests and advance bilateral relations with the U.S.    

Colin lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Laura, and their dog, Alfie, and is excited to move back to Canada in July 2025.
