Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the 2026 CEC-REN Annual Symposium at 黑料吃瓜资源!
Our CEC-REN outreach team had the pleasure of welcoming students from Perth Road Public School to Chernoff Hall at 黑料吃瓜资源!
After a brief introduction about water contamination and environmental challenges, students explored chemistry through a hands-on red cabbage pH indicator experiment, where they discovered how everyday liquids can change color depending on their acidity. Their curiosity, excitement, and thoughtful questions made the activity so much fun!
Another great year for CEC-REN at Science Rendezvous Kingston!
On May 9, 2026, the CEC-REN Youth Outreach team had an amazing time at Slush Puppie Place connecting with the community, sharing science with future scientists, and talking about water contamination and environmental research through our interactive activities. It was wonderful to see so many people excited about science and research.
On March 27th, 2026, our CEC-REN outreach team had the privilege of spending a day with three incredible groups at La Salle Intermediate and Secondary School.
We visited approximately 60 intermediate students to explore water science and environmental contamination. After a presentation on how contaminants enter our water systems, students got hands-on with a filtration experiment. Watching "contaminated" water gradually clear up (or not clear up!) sparked some fantastic questions and conversations about real world environmental challenges.
On World Water Day (March 22, 2026), Prama Roy and Ember Carrera from the CEC-REN Youth Outreach team attended an Indigenous Languages Celebration event hosted by the Katarokwi/Kingston Indigenous community to learn about Indigenous water stewardship.
Please join us in welcoming our new Youth Outreach and Education Coordinators, Rhiannon Punch and Nasim Fadaie. We are excited to have them join the team and look forward to the ideas, energy, and perspectives they will bring to our work supporting youth and strengthening community connections. 馃帀
Join Rachel Korchinsky (Chemistry) and Prama Roy (Environmental Studies) for a discussion of their work as the Youth Outreach and Education Coordinators for the ORF Contaminants of Emerging Concern 鈥 Research Excellence Network (CEC-REN). Thank you to @Katie-Marie McNeill for hosting and interviewing CEC-REN on the podcast.
