Thrive 365 emphasizes connection during Mental Health Month

Programming supports employee wellbeing, resilience, and connection through practical workplace supports and activities.

Thrive 365 continues to support employee wellbeing year-round, with May offering a dedicated opportunity to focus on mental health and building connections across campus. Offerings are intentionally designed to support employees through practical, evidence-based strategies that promote wellbeing, help prevent burnout, and foster meaningful connection. Aligned with , May programming also reflects the national theme of building stronger connections for better mental health.

To kick off the month, employees are invited to join a featured session with Lisa Sansom, a positive psychology expert known for translating research into practical workplace strategies. In this interactive 90-minute session, Lisa introduces the concept of psychological flexibility, a critical skillset that supports resilience, focus, and sustainable performance, particularly in times of uncertainty and complexity. The virtual session takes place on Wednesday, May 6, from 10:30 am - 12 pm Those interested in attending can register online.  

In addition to the featured session, a new will be launched during the first week of May as a simple yet meaningful way to recognize employee commitment to wellbeing and a healthy workplace. Employees who complete five core wellbeing learning sessions focused on mental health, resilience, psychological safety, and respectful work practices will earn a Wellness Champion sticker. The program aligns with the Employee Wellbeing Road Map and the .

  • Wellness Mood Board - Art Therapy for Self-Reflection: May 7, 12 – 1 p.m. Explore your personal wellness goals through collage, colour, and reflection. Register online.
  • Bird Life on Campus - A Walk to Notice Nature: May 12, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. A gentle, observational walk across campus, where participants will learn to notice and appreciate the movement, sounds, and behaviours of local and migratory birds. Register online.  
  • Strength Training Fundamentals: May 21, 12 – 1 p.m. A hands-on session that focuses on foundational strength training movements while highlighting how physical activity supports mental health, focus, mood, and stress regulation. Register online.  
  • Growing Healthier People and Stronger Communities: May 26, 1 – 2 p.m. Join ecological horticulturist and Master Gardener Astrid Muschalla to explore how emerging research is reshaping our understanding of the connection between nature, the senses, and overall wellbeing. Register online.  
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program Information Session: May 28, 1 – 2 p.m. An overview of services offered through our EFAP provider, TELUS Health One. Register online.  

All sessions align with the Employee Wellbeing Road Map and have been designed based on insights from university-wide data, industry trends, and employee feedback. This data continues to highlight the importance of sustained, proactive mental health support. Thrive 365 programming for May is available at no cost to the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ community thanks to several internal and external partnerships, including a donation from Manulife.
