Hi everyone,
As we close out the semester, I am writing to tell you about two new options to study on campus.
Today, I sent a letter to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, the Hon. Nolan Quinn, with feedback on the Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025 (Bill 33).
On May 29, 2025, the Ontario government introduced Bill 33, a wide-ranging piece of legislation amending the Education Act, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Act, the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, and the Ombudsman Act.
This week, the AMS Assembly and SGPS Council voted to ratify their respective executive candidates for the upcoming ballot. Just like last year, I'm sharing information on how to learn about the candidates, stay informed on election updates, and cast your vote.
The Office of the Rector is aiming to address the need for more study spaces on the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ campus, particularly during the final few weeks of the semester and into the exam period. Since a new library can’t be built overnight, we are thinking about creative ways to utilize current spaces on campus that are underutilized but have the potential to accommodate temporary desks and seats.
Please take a few minutes to complete the form by January 30, 2026.
Today the City of Kingston, along with neighbouring municipalities Port Hope, Cobourg and Belleville partnered with Abacus Data to survey residents and explore opportunities to enhance passenger rail service across Eastern Ontario – including adding a late-night train from Toronto-Kingston. Over the last few weeks VIA Rail has made several announcements on service that put into question the future of passenger rail in our community.
This summer, I struck a committee to review the Agnes Benidickson Tricolour Award Terms of Reference, which were last updated in 2021. After chairing the Tricolour Award Selection Committee last year, I discovered a need to clarify some aspects of the process to address commonly asked questions and ensure stability amongst Rectors. I also had concerns to bring forward for deliberation and resolution.
