ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´

The university and the employee group represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1302 are meeting today with the assistance of a government appointed Conciliation Officer. Conciliation bargaining dates have been confirmed for April 1 for CUPE Local 254 and  April 7 for CUPE Local 229.

Conciliation dates for USW, Local 2010 have been confirmed for April 9 and April 10.

All parties are working on scheduling additional bargaining dates.

Additional conciliation dates have been scheduled between the university and ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) towards a new collective agreement.

Conciliation talks between the university and CUPE groups will occur:

Representatives from the university and employee bargaining units recently met to receive an update on the  (UPP) from Allan Shapira, one of the actuaries working on the province-wide pension initiative.

ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ has asked the provincial government to appoint a conciliation officer to assist it and the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA) in their negotiation of a collective agreement.

The appointment of a conciliation officer to assist parties in negotiating an agreement is a normal part of the collective bargaining process. A conciliator has already been appointed to assist the university and employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the United Steelworkers (USW), in their negotiation of collective agreements.

Additional negotiation dates have been scheduled between the university and ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ employee groups represented by United Steelworkers (USW) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Bargaining dates for USW 2010 are as follows:

• June 15
• June 16
• June 19

Conciliation talks between the university and CUPE 1302, 229 and 254 will occur on June 18.

The university and the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2010 have both requested that a conciliator, appointed by the Ministry of Labour, join the parties to confer with them and endeavour to reach a collective agreement.

Conciliation dates have been scheduled between the university and the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA).

The dates are as follows:

• July 15, 16 and 17
• July 27 and 28

Meetings between the university and QUFA are also  scheduled for July 21, 22 and 24, though the conciliator is not available to attend those meetings.

The university and the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2010 continued productive negotiations with the assistance of the appointed conciliator, Greg Long, on July 13 and July 14.  The parties have agreed to meet again with Mr. Long on July 29.

The university values the contributions of its many employees and remains committed to the collective bargaining process.

Early on July 29, the university and the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA) reached a tentative collective agreement. On July 30, a tentative agreement was reached between ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2010.

Both agreements are subject to reaching a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the parties on a process for dealing with matters pertaining to pension, and to the ratification of the tentative collective agreements by both the university and the employee groups.

The tentative collective agreement between the university and the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA) is now official following the successful conclusion of QUFA’s ratification vote earlier today. The human resources committee of the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Board of Trustees voted to ratify the agreement earlier this week.
