ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´

As part of our ongoing collective bargaining process, conciliation meetings between the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and QUFA negotiating teams continue.  Having completed three conciliation meetings earlier this month, our team is scheduled to again meet with QUFA’s team, and the provincially-appointed conciliator, commencing February 7^th.  We remain committed to the collective bargaining process to reach a negotiated agreement, and to providing an exceptional educational environment for our students.

Representatives of ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ and the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA), along with a provincially-appointed conciliator, will meet in conciliation beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

The ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA) held their Fall General Meeting on Thursday, December 15, 2022. At that meeting, QUFA initiated a member vote seeking a strike mandate. Polls opened at 3 PM December 15 and closed today at 3 PM. QUFA members have now voted in support of the strike mandate. 

Representatives of the ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ Faculty Association (QUFA) have ended their participation in mediation talks with the University’s team aimed at renewing the collective agreement for faculty, librarians, and archivists.

The parties had agreed to participate in mediation in December in advance of conciliation in the New Year.

The University’s administration respects the collective bargaining process and remains committed to reaching a tentative agreement that is acceptable to both parties.

The university and ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have both agreed to conciliation in order to reach a new collective agreement. In conciliation, the parties are assisted by a provincially appointed conciliation officer as they work through outstanding issues. Conciliation dates have yet to be confirmed. The university administration respects the collective bargaining process and remains committed to working through it to reach a negotiated settlement.

Conciliation dates have been finalized between the university and ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÊÔ´ employee groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in their negotiations toward a new collective agreement.

Conciliation talks will occur:

Ballots remain sequestered following a vote on an application by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) for trade union certification to represent graduate research assistants at the university. The vote was conducted by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) in April 2014.  In October 2014, the OLRB mandated the process the university and PSAC would be required to follow to determine which of those who cast ballots had the status of employees at the time the vote was held and would therefore be eligible to be members of the bargaining unit.

The university and the employee group represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1302 are meeting today with the assistance of a government appointed Conciliation Officer. Conciliation bargaining dates have been confirmed for April 1 for CUPE Local 254 and  April 7 for CUPE Local 229.

Conciliation dates for USW, Local 2010 have been confirmed for April 9 and April 10.

All parties are working on scheduling additional bargaining dates.
